Tina was 8 years old when she began karate and has 18 years worth of experience behind her. She started Karate because she wanted to learn how to look after herself and enjoyed sport. However, she had a lay off from the sport for 7 years, not because of the usual ‘growing up’ events that occur in ones life, but because she joined the R.A.F. On her return to Wales, she decided to take up karate again. She lists highlights of her karate career as being:- fighting for Wales at junior and senior level, winning British Open at the age of 12 and runner up in a lot of other competitions. In one of her last competitions, she won the Irish Championships in 2002. Tina gained her 1st Dan grade at the age of 15, which along with representing Wales must be one of her greatest highlights to date. She achieved her 2nd Dan grade back in 2000 and re-opened Tumble Karate Club as instructor, the club which she once attended as a student. Tina then gained her 3rd Dan in 2003. She enjoys the discipline, the challenge and the physical side of it all. However, things changed and Tina got Married and started a family which got in the way of her karate, being a mother of 2 very young and busy children took over for a while, She states that "Karate is a fantastic Martial Art that requires 100% commitment from yourself". So, Tina then decided to take a change of direction and started training in Kickboxing. Having done kickboxing now for a number of years to compliment her Karate skills, she has now decided to open a Kick boxing club, replacing her previous ‘Tumble Karate Club’ of 5 years, with the NEW "Tumble Kickboxing Club" alongside her husband Jonathon (Johnny) Singleton. Tina says "Training under ‘Bungie’ has given me the confidence and ability to ‘expand my horizons’ and to continue my Martial Arts career in Kickboxing." Her vision for the future of Budokan Wales is to see it growing bigger and better, with a vast number of high quality senior and Dan grades. |
