2nd Dan

Gez began Karate at the age of 10
in 1986, with encouragement from his father, due to a situation of
being 'bullied' at school. He joined the 'Sokudo Karate
Association' in a local Leisure Centre in South Shields, Tyne &
Wear, by Abdu Shaher (7th Dan). It was here he met his instructor
Eddie Gillespie (4th Dan) of, at that time, Washington Sokuto.
It was Sensei Gillespie who introduced him to the joys of
competition Kumite. Gez's competitive fighting career started early.
He fought in many local and national competitions, winning medals in
many of these. Due to this, he won a place on the 'English
Sokudo' Team.
He gained his 1st Dan with Sensei
Shaher in 1990. Shortly after this, he and Sensei Gillespie
along with other members of his club moved associations to join with
Sensei Ticky Donovan OBE (8th Dan) and the British Ishinryu Karate
Association. During that time with Shihan Donovan and Sensei
Gillespie, Gez gained his 2nd Dan (1992) and competed successfully
at many competitions, including the British Open, English Open and
many others. This allowed him to gain a place on the English
Ishinryu Squad. In 1996 his Karate career was put on hold to
pursue a career in the Royal Marines. Then, after this period
of 'rest' from Karate, Gez moved here to Swansea, South Wales, where
after a lot of searching to find a reputable club, Sensei Hugh
'Bungie' Ruse allowed him to train with him and join Budokan Wales
Thus, "A new chapter in his Karate career has begun"..............
